World Scout Jamboree

Poland 2027

The 26th World Scout Jamboree will be held in Poland, on the beautiful island of Wyspa Sobieszewska in Gdańsk, from 30th July to 8th August 2027. The theme for the Jamboree is "Bravely."

As you may have seen, The UK Scout Association has committed to participating in the World Scout Jamboree, but with a smaller contingent. Scouts UK and British Scouting Overseas (BSO) will together be taking just 70 units, compared to the 125 units taken to Korea in 2023. This will reduce the number of young people able to attend. That said, here in Kent, we have been able to secure 3 full units for the 2027 Jamboree - the same number we had in 2023.

We believe that attending a World Scout Jamboree is a core part of the Scouting experience, and we’re thrilled that Kent will be well represented.

Join the Leadership Team

To support these 3 Unit that will be representing Kent Scouts, we will need to form a team of leaders to help guide our young people on this fantastic adventure!

There are 12 Leader positions available (3x Unit Leaders, 3x Deputy Unit Leaders and 6x Unit Leadership Team Members) that will be split though the 3 Units Kent has been granted.

We are sure that a large number of adults will want to take part in this event as a Unit Leader and so a role description and person specification has been produced to highlight what the role entails and the skills and experiences we are looking for. Please study these documents carefully and do send an application in. The selection panel are keen that every adult in Kent that wants to apply should do so, and consider the Jamboree experience a development opportunity for adults as much as for young people.

When you apply, please make sure you read and complete the application form carefully. We anticipate a large number of applications and we will use what you write in your application form as the basis on which to make a decision about inviting you to a selection event.

This event will be an opportunity for you to tell and show us more about you, why you would like to take on a leadership role at the Jamboree, and find out more about how your skills and experiences (in and out of Scouting) would support you to be a great member of the leadership team. As well as a chance for you to meet others, find out more about what being a jamboree leader means and if it is right for you at this point.

Details of timeline here:

The selection process will be a fair and inclusive process, we are not only looking for “super Scouts or people with years of experience” – we are keen to ensure that the teams formed blend correctly and ensure that they enhance the young people’s experience. If attending the Jamboree sounds like the adventure you would like, please apply, the only requirement is you must be over 18 before the selection weekend starts i.e. born before 10th July 2007.

Please apply online via the below link, we actively encourage you to speak with your DLV about your application, and a discussion with them may occur. If you feel there may be a bias there, please reach out directly to myself.

The application form is a simple online form accessible via the link below. Pending initial review, you will then be invited for a weekend selection, here we will look for the following qualities:

  • Knowledge and experience (role dependent)
  • Adaptability
  • Calm under pressure
  • Able to maintain a sense of humour
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations
  • Communication

Please note:

The Jamboree is physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. Applicants should be aware of the nature of what is expected and be confident that they are able to contribute to all aspects of the Jamboree experience.

Applicants should be aware that the Jamboree experience may last up to three weeks, subject to final confirmation on the makeup of the experience, and therefore will need to be sure they have the support of employers and family to be able to commit to the event. Further, there will be a significant number of weekend and evening commitments in preparation, and applicants should be confident they have time available amongst other commitments to fulfil the obligations of the role.

We do hope that you will apply, and remember, study the role description and person specification carefully and consider what skills and experiences you have that would contribute to ensuring the young people in the Kent Units to the World Scout Jamboree have a truly great international experience.

We look forward to receiving your application soon. Good luck!
