British Gas engineers re-paint at 9th Dartford
19th October 2023
As part of their corporate social responsibility programme, 15 British Gas engineers based in Dartford volunteered to re-paint 9th Dartford’s Scout Hall.
The Scout Group, in their 80th year, were grateful not only to British Gas for providing the manpower, and also to Wickes (Dartford) who donated much needed materials to support the project.
British Gas engineers spent 2-days at the Scout’s Heath Lane headquarters last week to completely repaint both interior and exterior of the single storey building which is used weekly by five scout sections, an Irish dancing troupe, and a knitting group.
During their 48-hour volunteering session, British Gas engineers painted the hall outside in bright green with a black base - which are the Scout Group’s colours – while indoors, white dominated the ceiling and upper half of the walls, with a navy blue lower half.
The finishing touch was the cupboard doors being painted in the sections’ colours : Red, light Blue, Green, Teal and Purple.
Shaun Ford, British Gas engineer and scout leader arranged the volunteering days commented “I am very pleased my work colleagues were able to brighten the Scout Hall to improve the meeting space for all our hall users.”
Group Lead Volunteer, Neil Gearing, added “Having cupboard doors colour-coded will be a great help to our younger members. We are pleased to have been supported by British Gas and Wickes (Dartford).”
Wickes’ local representative, Tracey Hill, added “Wickes Dartford were pleased that we were able to assist with a donation of decorating items for this great project, helping our local scout hall to look fabulous again.”
