What training do I need?

Getting Started training is required within 5 months of the start of a new role. It is online and doesn't take very long. Use these links to quickly find a complete the required modules. Remember to give your certificate to your Training Adviser or line manager once you've finished.

Use our quick guide to the training requirements for your role. Check your role description for any additional requirements you may have. This doesn't replace the support and guidance from your Training Adviser but should help to get you started on your journey. Need a Training Adviser? Talk to your line manager or Local Training Manager.

Section Assistant | Active Support Member

Getting Started:

This must be completed within 5 months of the start of your appointment for all roles.

Section Leader | Assistant Leader

Getting Started:

This must be completed within 3 years of the start of your appointment.

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Wood Badge (Training for all appointments & Section Leaders and Section Supporters modules - see Module Matrix

Group Scout Leader | District Commissioner | District Explorer Scout Commissioner | Youth Commissioner

Getting Started:

This must be completed within 5 months of the start of your appointment.

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Wood Badge (Training for all appointments & Managers and Supporters Core Skill Areas - see Module Matrix

This must be completed within 3 years of the start of your appointment.

Executive Committee Member (inc. Officers)

Getting Started:

This must be completed within 5 months of the start of your appointment.

Assistant District Commissioner | District Section Leader

Getting Started:

This must be completed within 5 months of the start of your appointment.

President | Vice President

There is no formal training requirement. You're still welcome to undertake Essential Information (01), Safety & Safeguarding.
